Mass Effect PS3 rumors “inaccurate” isn’t a rumor killer.
Mike Bowden at VideoGaming 24/7 talked with an EA rep that told him about the possible Mass Effect PS3 porting rumors, “The rumour regarding Mass Effect being developed for PS3 is inaccurate. Hope that helps.”
Maybe they meant that as a rumor killer (they made the usual “no comment” line about the future titles, which in gaming terms means “it’s coming but NDA’s prevent us from saying anything about it”), but it hardly is, because of the simple fact that the rep’s language of “inaccurate”.
What did he mean, exactly? The port isn’t going to happen? Was there a detail about a release date or features in the speculated port that was inaccurate? Or is there a special edition in the works that will be released on both consoles soon (maybe whatever DLC has been released for it being included even…hint hint, EA, if you’re planning something like that and listening to us)? We do not know and this actually gives us more questions than answers to this one, all in which we would like to have answered.
Sparking this rumor more than the GDC09 speech by Bioware was a story on Second Story Gamer that said that a source close to EA had made the “likely” quote about the ME PS3 port. This further complicates the “inaccurate” quote.
We think that those that are hoping this game doesn’t become multiplatform shouldn’t start celebrating just yet. This wasn’t even a full denial, let alone a rumor killer. Maybe EA was trying to kill the rumor and a port isn’t coming like everyone and their grandmother thinks will happen, but they did a hell of a lousy job at it.
However, we’ll wait for clarification from EA. The “no comment” about the rest of the series seems to be a quasi-confirmation when you don’t want to break NDAs, so at least we can up THAT part of the rumor to 90% “accurate”.
